Hovering over Rotterdam’s skyline like a pixelated mountain, Timmerhuis has become a beacon of the city. The vast, modern structure, located in the center of Rotterdam, behind the city hall and the old central post office, is a new addition to the historical Stadstimmerhuis. Designed by famous architectural studio OMA, the project form is broken down into repeated cuboidal modules creating its unique pixelated appearance and, at the same time, breaking down the overall scale of the structure as it gradually rises from the street into two irregular peaks. The building hosts retails and cafes along with the new Museum Rotterdam on the podium, five floors of offices dedicated to municipal departments, while luxury residential apartments are located on the upper floors boasting thrilling views of the city.
The façade features white ceramic fritting on the ultramodern glass and steelwork. The vast development is one of the most energy-efficient buildings in The Netherlands thanks to the triple glazed curtain wall façade featuring a hi-tech translucent insulation. Timmerhuis has achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
Ground floor façade, inner façade, glass roof and windows for an overall area of 12,600 sqm (135,630 sq ft).
