Koningskade 4 – renovation

The Hague, Netherlands

This landmark building in The Hague, which dates back to 1969, was the first to introduce the curtain wall façade concept in the Netherlands.

When the building needed an upgrade to enhance its performance and align it with modern sustainable practices, the existing 17-storey office building was renovated rather than rebuilt, and the old façade materials were reused – a practice that is becoming ever more important as we strive to create a more sustainable world.

Brand: Scheldebouw

Architect: Rijksvastgoedbedrijf

The project

The concept

Through development and testing, we devised a unique glazing profile for the building to enable us to exchange the glass while preserving the architecture – creating a new double-skin, laminated glass façade.

What did we do?

We replaced and renovated 6,000 sqm of the old double skin façade of single float glass with a double-skin, laminated façade at the correct thickness that meets all current performance criteria.
